Bereavement Café

A monthly drop-in space for support, conversation, and companionship.

The Old Malden Bereavement Café runs monthly drop-in sessions for anyone who has been bereaved.

It is a calm and welcoming space where people can come together, share conversation if they wish, or simply sit quietly in the company of others who understand loss.

People are welcome to attend whether or not their loved one was cared for by Princess Alice Hospice.

What happens at the Bereavement Café

The sessions are led by trained volunteers who help create a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment.

The Bereavement Café offers:

  • A friendly monthly drop-in session
  • Time and space to talk with others who have experienced loss
  • A listening presence from trained volunteers
  • Tea, coffee, and light refreshments

There is no formal structure, and no expectation to speak. You are welcome just to come, sit, and be part of the group in whatever way feels comfortable.

A space for shared understanding

Grief is deeply personal, and everyone experiences it differently. However, many people find comfort in speaking with others who understand what they are going through.

The Bereavement Café offers the opportunity to connect with others in a gentle and natural way, helping reduce the sense of isolation that can come with bereavement.

Who it is for

The Bereavement Café is open to anyone who has been bereaved, whether recently or in the past.

You do not need to be a member of the church or have any previous connection to St John’s or the hospice.

Everyone is welcome.

Refreshments & welcome

Tea, coffee, and refreshments are available throughout the session.

Volunteers are present to offer a warm welcome, gentle conversation, and support if needed.

A message from St John’s

At St John the Baptist Old Malden, we aim to be a place of care, compassion, and community.

We recognise that grief can be a long and difficult journey, and we are committed to offering spaces of support and companionship.

The Bereavement Café is one way we seek to walk alongside people in that journey.
